How do I Start My Christian Journey?
Learn how to increase your Faith!
In case you are new to my blog, My name is Tamorra. I write, create, and promote information that will help you in your journey to find your purpose. There are many steps that you must take in order to find the path that you are supposed to be on. The first and most important step is accepting Jesus in your life as your personal savior . . .
I know, I know. This is a hard pill to swallow if you are not used to the dialect or the "Christian" tone of that statement. Most people don't believe that God or Jesus has anything to do with their life's purpose. The thing is, there is something that has you here now. There is something that is drawing you to information on this blog. There is something that is speaking to your spirit, telling you that this is real and that this is happening.
Do you want to know how to find your true purpose in life?
I will tell you the simple step to finding your purpose:
Develop a relationship with God. Simple!
"But how do we do that if we don't know who God is? How do we talk to someone that we don't know?"
You just have to ask. . . You just have to seek him by saying: "Ok, I want something different God, I want to know who you are . . ." God will hear you and he will start you on your path to your purpose.
When you start your journey God will give you the gift of faith. It is by faith that we believe in Jesus Christ. It is by faith that we receive hope for a better way of life and an eternal future. It is by the work that we do for Christ, we increase that faith; day by day, and step by step.
I don't want to confuse anyone when I say that "it is the work we do." We do have to work at increasing our faith in order to be strong in the Lord. Faith is a currency that we need to learn how to use in order to operate in the Kingdom of heaven. Understand that Faith without works is dead . . . However, we do not work towards the goal of salvation. Salvation is a gift given to us by God. When we take these next steps to believe in his Son Jesus Christ, it is called our salvation.
Stick around because there is so much to learn about this Christian Life. You are not going to get it all in one blog post. But I do want to take the time to share with you the 7 ways to increase your faith. It may be well worth your time to read down if you are a beginner on this Christian Journey.
7 Ways to Increase Your Faith
Increasing your faith is a must when you want to grow spiritually. You can’t doubt the life that God has for you, you have to believe it. You have to dream it, envision it, and live it. Sometimes it can be hard when your faith is weak. So I want to go over with you 7 ways you can increase your faith.
1-Read Your Bible
Reading your bible increases your faith because you are developing your relationship with God. In order to increase your faith you have to condition your flesh to receive the message. When you read the word of God you are conditioning your mind to receive a seed of faith. God’s word is a representation of him. It is him. It is his essence and although we don’t physically see him, we are spending time with him. When you read his word you are increasing your understanding of who God is and therefore increasing your faith. Read it out loud. The word is powerful and it also sends a powerful energy into the universe when it is spoken out loud. Read the Word and speak it into your heart, your mind, and your soul.
2- Pray
Prayer is another way to spend time with God and it will help to increase your faith. Prayer is more than saying the same thing over and over then hoping God hears you. Many people get confused on this, the bible says “when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do, for they think they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them; for your father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him” Matthew 6:7-8. Therefore when you pray you should already know in your heart that God has already made a way to provide you with your basic needs. The manifestation of your dreams, hopes, wants, and desires, when asked for in complete trust that God will provide them, serves as a testimony to yourself that God is real. This type of prayer is building your faith: you are trusting and believing in God. There are different types of prayer but I just encourage you to keep an open dialog with God. The more time you spend with God, the more you will understand prayer and the more comfortable you will become with this concept.
3- Affirmations
You should practice making positive statements about yourself. For example “I am smart, I am talented, I am blessed and highly favored.” Affirmations are an important way to increase your faith. What you are doing is speaking to yourself, encouraging yourself, and convincing yourself with a strong assertion of a statement that you want to believe as true. When you tell yourself positive things, you will start believing those positive things. You are hence conditioning your mind to think a different way. This transformation is done by repetition. This is something that you should practice on a daily basis. Be very careful not to make negative affirmations because they work the same way. If you are constantly telling yourself “I am always broke, I am so stupid, or I never can get ahead,” then this is exactly what you are going to be; broke, stupid and behind.
4- Find a Church Home
Finding a good church home will increase your faith. It is setting you in the right environment, with the right type of people, with the right type of attitudes. Your church family should practice fellowship, and be good examples of how to build a relationship with the Lord. Finding a church home helps support the first three points of increasing your faith. We all need support and encouragement to keep going, keep growing, and to keep learning.
Also, when we surround ourselves with other believers that think about things and see things the same way we do, we feel more comfortable talking about the word of God and discussing the essence of God. We are practicing talking to others and building up our confidence to talk to non believers. We are building up our boldness and therefore increasing our faith.
5- Study and Share
The word says to study and show yourself approved. We must study the word of God. When we study we are showing God that we care. We care enough to spend that extra time, go that extra mile, put his teaching into remembrance. Yes, reading is important, but as we grow we must learn to meditate on the word. Let it become part of us. The reading of the word is the conditioning of the flesh and the studying is sowing the seed in our heart.
Don’t hold it in. This is the law. We can’t hold in the word, instead, we need to share it with other believers and with nonbelievers. We can share the word by sharing our testimony. This not only increases your faith but increases the person who listens to it. Sharing with others will build up your confidence, this will build up your boldness in Christ. We need to be bold for Christ. Being bold is a result of faith and also a facilitator. The more bold you become you know that your faith is increasing and you will be more prone to do things for God. You will be more prone to hearing his voice. He is watching you. He sees your growth in your faith. He will reward you for your dedication, your commitment, and your sharing of his word.
6- Decrease the World- Increase the Spirit
According to Ephesians chapter 4 there are some things you should stop doing and somethings you should start doing in order to get rid of old thinking (sinful nature, natural man):
Stop |
Start |
Lying |
Telling the truth |
Sinful anger |
Righteous indignation |
Theft |
Honest work |
Foul language |
Gracious speech |
Resentment/wrath |
Kindness and forgiveness |
You have to make up your mind to do the right thing and stop doing the wrong thing. This takes practice. Much like running, learning an instrument, or joining the football team; it takes dedication and lots of practice to get better at it. Jim Rohn says “Don’t wish that it were easier, wish that you were better.” You must develop yourself, put the time into yourself so that you can prepare yourself to be used by God. Hence it takes conditioning to decrease in the world and increase in the spirit. Your faith will become stronger as you tap into your spiritual senses.
7- Listen to Positive Messages
The word says that “So then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17. So I suggest to you that if you want to increase your faith listen to a bible based Christian speaker/preacher/teacher/ prophet on YouTube or on CD. Don’t listen to it just once, make it part of your daily routine. Get a bible application that reads the word to you. Condition your spirit to be filled by the word of God everyday. Go to church, listen to the preacher speak the word of God. Take notes if you have to in order to go over the message at home. Perhaps you want to try Sunday School or Bible Study to receive a message from God. The point is the more you hear it, the stronger your faith becomes.
In conclusion, God wants to spend time with you. He wants you to get to know him because he already knows you. He knows everything about you. The bible says he even knows the number of hairs on your head! He thought you up before the beginning of time. He knew who your parents were going to be, what time period you were going to be born in, and what seed you were going to sow in your lifetime. He has a purpose for you. You are important to him. Now he wants you to spend time with him. He wants you to be able to hear his voice, and fellowship with him. Get to know God through reading his word, prayer, studying, surrounding yourself with the right people for encouragement and all the other ways that he has for you to get to know him. As you spend more and more time with God, your faith will grow and you will be that much closer to your purpose.
I encourage you to practice these things. Review them. Consult with God that it is the truth of the word of God. Develop your relationship with the Lord and learn the ways of the Lord. This can be the start of your Christian Journey!
