The Audacity

 

The audacity of you thinking that you can

You can’t, you won’t, so often you ran

The conspiracy of you to think any other way

You cry, you laugh, you catch the lick of the fire that burns your right hand

 

Oh what will be found?

Oh what will you learn?

Oh what, child, will you see if you saw?

 

And lonely footprints whisper secrets of the dope

Who are you to have the audacity to hope?

 

Snippity and Dipity and cautious Ray Brown

Peak their heads around corners with a glorious grins of wonder

 

Oh what will be found?

Oh what will they learn?

What will be wagered?

What price to be burned?

 

A familiar tune was easy to join and the prance of the trance was cool and smooth

All the right things, at all the right times gave just enough reason to keep stepping straight.

All the right things presented that allowed them to cope

Who were they to have the audacity to hope?

 

What would they have seen?

What would they have saw?

How happy is he that keepeth the law?

 

Oh child, what will you know?

What will you create with your mind that dances with colors of purpose?

What can you achieve with a brilliance of brightness?

What will you see if you only saw?

 

Instead, you tried, you took the dope to cope

Who were you dear, to have the audacity to hope

This poem was inspired by
