Grow in Your Purpose
3 Spiritual Exercises to Help You Find Your Purpose
Are you interested in knowing why you are here on earth?
I'll give you the short answer. . . Your purpose is to grow. The thing is there is a lot that goes into growing. You have to have the right seed, the right soil, the right environment, and the right atmosphere. You have to have water, an energy source, and someone to monitor the seed, preferably someone who knows what he is doing. . .
Deep down we all would like to know what the purpose of life is and how we can truly fulfill our purpose. We all just want to be happy, and this is why we do most of what we do. Sometimes our actions can get us into some pretty tough situations.
Perhaps there is a better way. . .
Yes, there is a better way, but you have to believe in order to receive this revelation. Let's get started by exercising a little!
3 Spiritual Exercises that will help you find your purpose
#1 Be Humble
#2 Be Forgiving
#3 Apply your learning
Quote from a Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren:
"Only as God is allowed to shine the light of his truth on our faults, failures, and hang ups, can we begin to work on them. This is why you cannot grow without a humble, teachable attitude.” p220
Spiritual Exercise #1
Be Humble
Allow yourself to understand that you do not know everything because you are still growing, absorbing, and learning. If your heart is hard you will not be able to absorb truth that is being given to you. So, just relax, keep an open mind and have a teachable attitude. This takes practice and this is why I call this the first exercise.
I find that the Lord encourages me to encourage you. I find that he sends encouraging words, people, and experiences that pour into me so that I may share it with you. However, I haven’t always been a vessel that he could pour into. I’m learning to get my act together. He is teaching me how to get my life in order so that I might be able to help more people.
This is the purpose for each and everyone of us. Our purpose is to grow. We grow so that we may help other people grow. Each day, each month, each year we are learning, and growing more in understanding. We are growing more in knowledge and in wisdom. My goal is to get you growing in application of your purpose.
How do I become more humble?
Try this: Do less talking and do more listening. Practice it everywhere you go. Each and every person in this world has something to contribute. Listen and absorb. Remembering to take hold of the good and get rid of the bad. When you respect a person’s value, you will add more to your value.
Spiritual Exercise #2
Be Forgiving
Forgiveness is a key exercise in order to release yourself from past disappointments and pain. It is a necessary spiritual exercise before you even try to attempt being loving. Loving is a spiritual exercise that can only be truly practiced with a new spirit. Practicing Love is a whole other book! So before we talk about love, let’s talk about how to get there by practicing forgiveness.
First,
Forgive yourself
Everyday, tell yourself that you forgive you, for all your past mistakes and miscalculations. You must come to the realization that you had to go through what you had to go through in order to become the person you are today. The person you are today is who you are supposed to be. God is forming you and very carefully crafting you for your purpose.
Know this . . .
We should not judge ourselves on decisions or situations from the past. We are not the same people this year that we were last year. It doesn’t quite make sense to judge yourself on someone you used to be. Hence, it is not fair to judge others on who they used to be. This brings me to your next forgiveness practice . . .
Forgive others
If you know it or not, you are constantly and continuously being prepared to fulfill your destiny. Now, take this idea and apply it to every person you know or knew in the past. They too are being prepared for their destiny. So forgive them for doing you dirty, lying on you, or putting you in a hard situation. They also are on a journey to grow.
All of our experiences, our good moments, our tragedies, our accomplishments, and our failures were put into the divine plan for our lives. Why? Simply, so that we could grow from them.
“I know from personal experience that nothing you have been through will be wasted. All you have been exposed to and all that you have experienced are in the repository that builds your future. You never know what tidbit of information or seemingly insignificant experience will become the bedrock of your destiny” (Destiny by Bishop TD Jakes p27)
Spiritual Exercise #3
Apply your learning
You have humbled your heart, you are receiving the information, but in order to hold on to it and make it a part of you, you have to practice it!
We learn a lot of lessons in life. The lessons that we don’t learn we tend to have to retake the test. I encourage you to apply this truth of forgiveness in your life.
It is easy to say to you: forgive yourself and forgive others, but how does one go about doing this. Well, I will give you a list of suggestions.
Remember, keep an open mind. . .
Each person is different and will require different tasks in order to grow in their spiritual exercises. This is just a rule of life, we all have slightly different perspectives of the world, so pick one or two things and try them and see if it works for you.
Rule of thumb: the suggestions that you are more uncomfortable with are probably the ones you should do.
To forgive yourself and others:
1-Tell yourself everyday, five times a day, while looking yourself in the mirror:
I forgive me for . . .
I forgive_____for . . .
(This will train your subconscious to release resentment and tell it that you are ready to release past hurts, disappointments, fears, blames, and worries.)
2- Start keeping a journal and thank God for:
The good things in your life
The strength that came from your pain
The people that taught you important lessons in your life
The lessons you’ve learned
(This helps awaken your awareness of how God is working in your life. It opens your spiritual eyes to see blessings that are right in front of you, ready for you to take action.)
3-Go to people you have hurt in the past and ask forgiveness
(This shows that you have changed and that you are ready to move on. You are admitting to yourself and others that you had a change in your thinking. When you do this you are also having a change in heart.)
4-Go to God and ask for forgiveness
(This shows God that you are ready to make that commitment to a better life. You are ready to make a change to live for him. When you get to this point, God will give you the secrets to fulfilling your destiny.)
Now, here is the thing, you either will hear it and do it, OR read it and dismiss it. Sometimes we dismiss good information just because we are conditioned to dismiss anything that doesn’t make logical sense.
This will not make logical sense because this journey is supernatural. These are exercises to help connect you with the spiritual being that you are. When you connect with the Holy Spirit, God will give you a vision for your purpose.
God is waking up many prophets, teachers, and dreamers to help you make that supernatural stretch to the truth. I encourage you to take advantage of the information that the Holy Spirit is putting out there.
If this isn’t your forum I pray that you find somewhere to learn more about God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
I will soon explain the spiritual exercises of love and thankfulness in a free PDF Download, but first please take action on practicing being humble and forgiving.
I pray that this gets you closer to finding your purpose.
