How to Get to Heaven

How do I get to Heaven?

Simple answer:  Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins

Complicated answer:  Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins

An answer with a little more detail:  Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus died on the cross for your sins.  Ask him to come into your life and be your personal savior and he will be with you for the rest of your days.

The world likes to complicated this conversation with a lot of how to’s and to do’s for the purpose of becoming a better person to earn some type of reward.  Our culture conditions us with this type of work ethic for goodness, or personal development to be a better person, or extreme achievement for acceptance.   Well being a kinder person is not a requirement to get into heaven.

It is not our job to change our nature, but it is God's job.  So, you can take that pressure off of yourself.

Be confident of this very thing; that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6

The truth is that we have failed as people taking care of people, and we have failed as people taking care of ourselves. We are failures.  So, we really need the help in this living of life and that help comes from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The good news is that the mind of God has already calculated our failure, he has worked out the problem by sending Jesus to save us.  You are not required to do anything else but believe that the problem of sin and death has been solved for us through the death of Jesus Christ.

An interesting conversation about heaven and afterlife presented itself to me this week.  I know that there are so many people in this world, with so many different world views and concepts of who God is.  I am however, disheartened by the ignorance that is taught in Christian settings about what it takes to get to heaven.

What does it take to get to Heaven?

It takes the belief that God loved us so much that he sent his son (an extension of himself) to earth, so that anyone who believed in him will not die, but have everlasting life.

I had someone tell me that they were taught by the church that in order to go to heaven you have to accept Jesus as your personal savior and do good works to guarantee your spot.

LIES LIES LIES

Jesus doesn’t require you to do good to become a member of the Kingdom, but it is because you are a member of the Kingdom that you desire to do good.

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Revelation 22:17

This doesn’t mean that you have to work at being a better person in order to receive the gift of everlasting life.  Jesus gives a free gift of salvation:

What is salvation?

Salvation means that Jesus made a way for you to be found.  You are found in the wreckage of life and salvaged for a purpose.  You are reclaimed as a spirit that belongs in heaven. So, the belief that God did this for you through his plan of sending a savior to find you starts your journey back to heaven.

Friends, it’s not even about trying to get to heaven, its about Jesus taking us back to heaven.

I know that our hearts are set on the frequency of deeper meaning.  I think that people get confused in their living of exactly how to achieve that deeper meaning.  Human suffering is a real thing and anyone who doesn’t recognize that life does bring sorrow, is truly not connected to his own human nature in terms of love.  If you have love in your heart, you can feel the hurt. I am deeply hurt by the fact that people feel they need to earn their way to heaven. This is a lie from the pits of hell.

Regardless if you  have a deep connection to Jesus, God, or faith, you must know this following thing:

Jesus made a way for everyone, every living person to have access to him.  The way is not by becoming a better person, the way is not by loving more or giving more or being more kind.  Why? Because without the love that comes from God, giving more, and being kind always has an ulterior motive that feeds the flesh instead of feeding the spirit.  So, the first step to heaven is to believe that Jesus paid it all. Now, with this first step there is a growth progression that you will mature in that has nothing to do with what you can do for God, but everything to do with what God is going to do for you.

Finally, so that I will not confuse those who sincerely want to have a closer relationship with the Lord know this:

When you feel the tugging at your heart to follow the Lord, this is a calling on your life to walk closer to Jesus.  You don't have to worry about your character, your past, your faults, or your failures, Jesus will meet you where ever you are.  Let us say this prayer:  Lord, I am a sinner, and I ask you to come into my life now and help me, save me, and forgive me of my wrong thinking.  I desire to walk closer to you, I desire to learn the ways of the Lord, and I desire to spend eternity with you in heaven. I believe that you are the way. Amen.

Watch the Lord do wonderful things in your life.

By the way, when God changes your nature you will desire to do good, be kind, and love abundantly.  Being a good person, however, is not a requirement to get to heaven.  This is a strange thing to say but it is true. There is no one good but the Father in heaven. We are all sinners and have all fell short of the glory of God's holiness.  Thank you God for the spirit that redeems.

Love you with the love of the Lord

Until next Time
