Trust the Teacher

I walked in the classroom to help a teacher during a math lesson today.  She was teaching the distributive property to which I was familiar. As the students practiced their problems, I walked around to see what they were doing right and gave them pointers to continue to do it right.  There were some students that had it down. The teacher gave them several strategies to visualize how to solve the problem correctly. She told them to use the box method. Some of them did, while others attempted to do the work in their head instead of on their paper.  This was fine for the easy problems but when it came to the more difficult problems they started to get the wrong answers. They had trouble with distributing the negatives which resulted in the wrong answer. But if the students would have taken the advice from their teacher in the first place, they would have known the strategies to get the right answers for the harder problem as well.

There was one student in particular who was using the box method but he never solved the entire problem.  He would stop before getting the answer. On a test, this would have resulted in a failing grade.

Here goes the thing, in order to learn from the master teacher you have to respect the master teacher.  If you respect the master teacher then you will value all of the information disbursed from that teacher.  You would take the notes and you would review those notes. You would study and you would practice because you understood that your knowledge of the subject would help you on the test.  Friends, there is nothing new under the sun. Furthermore, the whole design of this life that we are living is a picture of how we learn, grow, and create. We are in the classroom of life.   So, if you are truly interested in learning, respect your teacher and do what he says or you are going to have a hard time understanding the material.

The word of God tells us to have a humble heart.  We must have a humble teachable heart like a child, trusting that the teacher knows what is best.

There are a lot of people in the world that just do not trust the teacher.  They think that they have what it takes to figure out things for themselves.  This is okay for them, let them learn the hard way.  But for me and you, for us who believe in God, for those of us who believe in a savior, let us learn and be fully confident in his word of truth.  Jesus is our master teacher in the classroom of life.

I have a few pointers for you, just as someone who is helping out in the classroom of life:

-Keep a journal so that you can; study to get the material down and write down the pointers that are given to you by the teacher.

-Read the text book (the bible) because it has a lot of good examples for living life.

-Practice the word, because practice makes better.

-Don't try to do the work in your head,  because the problems get harder.  Use the strategies given to you by the teacher.  This means you must apply the word of God.

-Spend time with Jesus, because he is always available for tutoring. It would be wise to make the time to meet with him regularly.

-Finish your work.  Starting and doing the work correctly doesn't mean anything if you actually are not doing what the teacher asked you to do.  Solve the problem presented to you. You need to finish the work to pass the test.

I pray that this is helpful to you on this Monday.  This is your motivation so that you can keep moving forward in class:

It is your teacher’s responsibility to help you pass the class.

It is your responsibility to obey the instructions of the teacher.

Jesus never fails so nor will you.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

Matthew  18: 1-5
