I recently indulged in Thomas Moore's 1992 release called "Care for the Soul." It touched on many of my beliefs and interests of the psychological functioning of the mind. I gathered from the reading that it is important to approach life from a perspective of care on a long-term basis. How can we take the necessary steps to feed the soul before it becomes malnourished and on it's death bed? Our current culture often ignores the weight of preventative care but concentrates on treating illnesses that already exist. Instead, I would like to further explore the idea of caring and nurturing the inner man. The following is one exploration on this topic of caring for the soul.
Caring For Your Soul
Sometimes it is hard to find the time to care for your soul. This is a poignant and continuous problem in our fast paced society. We often have to fight for the things that we are in desperate need of. We must place a firm foot on the ground and demand from ourselves the time to care for ourselves. Why? Because the condition of the soul dictates the condition of your world. When I talk about your world I am not only talking about your world from an individualistic perspective that often rings out from American culture. Instead, I am referring to the world in which we live and the connective nature of soul to soul. The health of our own souls gives health to those around us and therefore creates a more soulful community.
But what is soul and how do we care for it?
Soul is the inner essence of you. Your soul is something that you must nourish. It is something that grows inwardly and then outward. It is intended to guide you and to provide guidance for others. The more you care for your soul, the more it cares for you.
There is often talk about ones’ soul with spiritual connotations surrounding its meaning. The soul is a spiritual concept. It is a concept that can be felt and related to mindset, to life, to purpose, to energy, to creativity, and other expressions of the inner man. Soul lives in the subconscious mind and is driven by invisible things. It grows in shadows but gives light when it is properly cared for.
I know that my words bring a sort of illusion to the idea of soul. But to not be confused about what soul is, let me tell you what it is not. Soul is not your body. It is not a physical understanding of reality or an idea that can be physically held. Soul is not your spirit. Your spirit is an energy that comes from God, your creator. Spirit can generate and regenerate while your soul can slowly fade away into nothingness. It is a sad state when your soul dies. This means that your life has lost its purpose.
Your soul generates the message of your life. What do you want your life to say? What do you want your life to convey? The decisions, the actions and the way that you spend your time determines the soul that you leave behind. Yes, you can leave “soul” in this world. I don’t talk about the soul as a ghost that has not crossed over, no, that is a misconception of soul. That is a misinterpretation of a spirit. Spirit energy can very well be lost or simply not have a place to dwell. Soul, however, always has a purpose. It’s purpose can be to support a false world or to support an everlasting Kingdom. What do you choose to use your soul for?
Why do people wonder about the soul and where their soul goes when we rarely understand the purposes of these types of things. Soul was meant to keep your purpose alive. We find that some people know more about soul than others. We often feel soul but don’t really understand what we are feeling. The soul is very important to a person. Soul is power. Soul brings confidence. Soul guides you to purpose because it holds gifts and talents to the standard of their full growth potential. Soul then can be looked at as your planned potential. We can understand “soul” better when we look at the design of the seed.
A seed has planned potential. A seed has everything that it needs inside of it with the potential to grow into something beautiful. Sometimes we don’t know what is programmed into a seed until we plant it, water it, and give it energy from the sun. Then we must wait and watch it grow into something. Like a seed, the soul has hidden potential that is to be transformed into your life essence. It is your legacy and what you will leave behind. You must care for it or it will die. You must share it with others so that others can feel the love from your soul.
What a complicated understanding this is, until you become connected to other souls. When your soul becomes connected to the heartbeat of others you can feel it. You can feel everything. You can feel the joy and the love but you can also feel the sadness and the pain. It is in these feelings that you become concerned for others because you know that you are connected in the grander scheme of things. Caring for others is caring for your own soul.
Philanthropists and humanitarians have tapped into this soul service. The problem is that they fail to recognize the designer of the soul process. The source, the creator, the great spirit is the one who created the design and process of the soul.
We all should take the time to learn how to care for the soul. The beauty of the learning is that the lessons are inside of you. Your soul will teach you what to do if you are quiet and still enough to listen. Get quiet. Listen to your soul without distractions from the outside world; such as television, news, or social media. Learn how to care for your soul.

“Those doing soul work, who want the searing truth more than solace or applause, know each other right away. Those who want something else turn and take a seat in another room. Soul-makers find each other’s company.”
