Still Learning

February 6, 2023

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?  What do you do when you just can’t figure things out?  What do you do when you get lost and confused about what is supposed to happen next?

Someone just texted me last night in the attempt to summarize a preacher’s message about getting rid of stress.  She tried to send me a video but the link didn’t work so she used a few words to tell me about the video.  I received the message loud and clear: Don’t try to figure it out!

What I mean by this is that our brains are awesome but they are not the mind of God.  We are wonderful creations of God, but we are not God.  We can all save ourselves a lot of time and wasted energy by just stopping.  We can stop trying to figure things out!  We are messing up so much more in the world when we try to solve our problems with human thinking.  We are lost.

The Lord continues to teach me these things.  I am still learning.

I have been wrong all of these years.  All of these years I tried to put two and two together.  I tried to make sense of my life and the lives of those closest to me. I rationalized and explained why bad things happened at the times they happened.  I most recently drew up some conclusions about why my father had to die so young; and why I had to simultaneously lose my church home, my job,  and my house.  I went on a fast to try to solve my problems.  This is wrong thinking.  We cannot solve our problems.  Instead we need the help of the Lord.  We need the reasoning and the counsel of the Lord!

Come, let us reason together!

I eventually failed at solving my own problems. I tried to figure out how I could be so wrong about so many things. Why didn’t someone tell me about the cliff I would eventually fall off just because I decided to keep on living this life?  Yeah, I tried to write down those explanations in a series of chapters that eventually became a book.  Those explanations could be thrown out of the window now because everything is most likely not “Figureoutable” like Marie Forleo’s publication  suggests.  I could not write my problems away.  I could not work them away, cry them away, dance them away, or drink them away.  I had to learn to trust God and to call on him when I needed help.

Don’t try to figure it out!

Then the Lord reminds me:

Who has known the mind of the Lord?

Your mind cannot fathom nor can it perceive what the Lord has in store for you.

These are the type of thoughts that he sends to my mind to remind me that his word tells us over and over again not to worry about things that we have no control over:

Don’t worry about tomorrow for today has enough trouble in it!

I wanted to take a deeper dive into the idea of not trying to figure things out for the sake of keeping our minds

I Corinthians 2:16

“Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.

What is the mind of Christ?

The mind of Christ is the Holy spirit that we have access to in order to complete God’s purpose.

1 Peter 4:1

As Christ had suffered in the flesh, arm yourself with the same MIND, because who ever sufferers in the flesh ceases from sin and does not spend his time to the lust of the flesh but to the will of God.

Now, we know that God knows all things, understands all things, sees all things, and has created all things.  He came to earth as Jesus and taught himself how to be obedient to his own holy words.  And so, we are to do the same.  To have the mind of Christ is to be obedient to God’s words.  This is the conclusion of the whole matter!  We don’t have to seek out and understand the deep things of the Lord.  He will reveal to us what we need to know on an as needed basis!!  We can’t begin to understand why God does what he does or what he does in the background.  We just know that he is working it out for our good!!  Wow, he must have something really awesome cooking up for us and that ought to make us so joyful!!

Romans 11:33-36 NIV

Oh the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

How unsearchable his judgements, and his path beyond tracing out!

Who has known the mind of the Lord?

Or who has been his counselor?

Who has ever given to God,

that God should repay them?

For from him and through him and for him are all things.

To him be the glory forever! Amen

I Corinthians 2:9

Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

So I’m excited about what is to come.  I keep my mind on these things.  He tells us to think on good things so that we don’t stress ourselves out like the rest of the world. I am fighting against this anxiety, worry, and stress driven culture.  I want to choose to live for the Lord and to be obedient to his directions.  I don’t want to be burdened down with the task of figuring things out.  That’s God’s job.  I was not created to take his job.  I was created to worship and share the good news of his glory, his forgiveness, his love, his mercy, his kindness, and his judgment.

I continue to promote and encourage people to seek after the Lord for encouragement, hope, motivation, and food for your soul.  He said that if you really do thirst or if we are too heavy with the burdens of this world, then we can turn to him.  Let us turn to him so that he can restore our souls.

I believe that creativity is food for your "spirit man" and that to care for your spirit is so much more important than your physical being. However, all of these things are connected.  We need to develop all aspect of our  lives.  Do something creative, appreciate creativity, and learn more about your creative ability.  This is part of your purpose.  And remember to always live on purpose because it is your destiny.
