Should you pursue a career in writing?

I am sorry to say that I don't have a clear or exact answer for that!  I have been wondering the same thing lately as I approach the 4 year anniversary of writing this blog.

I love writing.  Unfortunately my efforts in this craft hasn't led me to where I thought I should be by now.  Therefore, I would have to say that if you love writing and you will do it even if you don't get paid for it, then go for it!  But speaking from  Christian viewpoint, you need to pursue your writing if it is a God given gift that the Lord wants you to develop.  If you believe that your writing will truly help people, then keep at it.  The only way to be sure is to continue to walk with Jesus so that he can direct you in the way you should go.

I was just reading in Proverbs 28: 19

Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.

So, we don't want to chase after fantasies.  Anything that you pursue is going to take hard work, planning, and time.  You will have to sow the seed in order to reap the harvest.  I say that to say: don't be surprised if your writing dreams take longer that you expected to come to light.    Remember, the vision is for an appointed time. If you really want to be a writer, keep at it, get better, and continue to put in the work.  Remember, you are not competing with anyone else, but you are challenging yourself to grow.

I do feel like I was called into writing this blog, so, whenever I get discouraged and want to quit, I remember that the Lord asked me to do it.  Therefore, it doesn't matter how many readers I get, or how many comments; I know that the Lord sees me and he will bless me accordingly.  This is what you have to keep in mind as a writer:  "Is this what I am supposed to be doing with my life?"

Writing is actually a therapy for me.  It is relaxing and allows me to organized my thoughts.  If writing is something that you cannot live with out, then go for it.  Start a blog, write an article, create a newsletter!  Do what ever the Lord put on your heart to do.

I am not a life coach!!  But I do feel like I have a gift as a teacher to put things into perspective for others.  I actually didn't start this post thinking that I was going to be giving writing advice.  But the Lord told me to add this part and to change the title.  I wish you well on your writing journey and I pray that the Lord make you his spokesman to help those in need.  This is another reason why I continue to write; I feel like each of us is a reflection of God's love and so we each have a perspective and a voice to share with the world.

You have to ask Jesus who you are and what you are supposed to be doing.  I believe that I am a writer for God!

I'm writing and promoting a new book!  Check out this excerpt . . .

No, I don’t want to be a life coach. I am just little me, trying to learn about my Great God. I much prefer to be called a perspective coach. I chose to write about what I see from a Christian worldview and try to put meaning to life based on the truth of God’s word. I really want everyone to see that God is in control of this whole thing. I want people to see that there is purpose to process.

The Lord says to me, just like he is speaking to you, turn from the ways of the world, change your mind and I will restore you. Change your mind so that honest and true words come out of your mouth and I will make you my spokesman. . .

I am not trying to hurt people, although I know that they are hurting. I am not trying to convert people, although I know Jesus is calling you. He has chosen to save the world and I serve a God who does not fail. He will save you even when you are offended by it.

God loved this world so much that he sacrificed his only son to help us change our minds. The power of the Holy Spirit will destroy the traps that the enemy has placed on your mind and Israel will be restored. But who is Israel and who is Judah? There was a time in the past where history was written for truth and a time after where history was written for alternate agendas. This is a strange thing that has happened in the earth. The questions that used to be asked about life have dwindled down to meaningless activity. We don’t have time for this type of living anymore. It is time to start living.

I pray that these words are helpful to you on your life journey.  The book that I am writing is about life.  The book is about life lessons that I wish I understood earlier.  However, I had to go through things so that I could grow through things.  I suggest it for anyone who is stumbling through their thirties or groaning through their forties.  It is also a good read for a mature 20 something!

The name of the book is "Strange and Peculiar."  I have enjoyed writing it and pray that it will bring some clarity to the purpose of life for you.

I haven't settled on the cover but I am sure that the name is going to stick. Look for it soon on this page!  Thanks for your support!

Always,
